5 BEST MOUNTAIN BIKING TRAILS IN SINGAPORE

We load our bike into the Mitsubishi Outlander before tracking down the most awesome two-wheeled adventures in Singapore’s great outdoors. We’ve ranked the rides too; check out the icons below for the levels of difficulty (bikebikebikebikebike = the ultimate thrill)!

Mandai Track 15

Difficulty level: bikebikebike

More commonly known as T15 to mountain bike enthusiasts, has a good mix of track and trail through sections of forest and open clearings – there are also trail runners/walkers within the trails so it is best to keep a safe distance from them. Terrain-wise, T15 is generally quite straight and flat with some climbs so it will suit beginners to intermediate-level riders.

You have to find a parking space along Mandai Lake Road (which leads to the zoo) before making your way to the start of the trail.

Difficulty level: bikebikebikebikebike

Located around a former island quarry on the island of Pulau Ubin, Ketam Mountain Bike Park will put the most experienced riders to the test with its combination of technical climbs and rock-littered descents. There are three classifications of trails with progressive levels of difficulties – the Blue Square loop has steep slopes and narrow tracks designed for beginner riders. The intermediate-level Black Diamond trails have long steep climbs, drop-offs and challenging obstacles. The most challenging of trails is the Double Black Diamond with extra steep climbs, drop-offs, sharp corners and challenging obstacles.

However, riders will be rewarded with spectacular views of the Ketam Quarry during their adventures and there is even a viewpoint for capturing those Instagram-worthy moments. To get to Pulau Ubin, you need to find a parking lot at Changi Village and take your bike on a 10 to 15 minute bumboat ride from Changi Jetty.

Difficulty level: bikebikebikehalfbike

One of the first gateway riding trails in Singapore, Bukit Timah Mountain Bike Trail also known as “BT” features a series of long climbs, sharp descents with muddy corners and gnarly roots. The entire trail is about 6.5km long so it will be a test of the rider’s stamina and endurance that is best suited for intermediate-level riders or above. BT is a classic cross-country trail with a good mix of light forest and a variety of technical features.

We recommend finding parking space at the Diary Farm Road entrance as there are usually ample parking lots with toilets and bike washing facilities available.

Kent Ridge Mountain Bike Trail

Difficulty level: bikebikebikebikehalfbike

Not for the faint-hearted, Kent Ridge Mountain Bike Trail features a technical downhill course with a smooth flowing layout packed with winding corners and berms of various sizes that challenges a rider’s ability to maintain speed, balance and technique. At various points, short but seemingly steep concave drops will test your mettle — you either commit to it, or opt for the ‘chicken run’ beside it.

The trail is rated by National Parks (NParks) for intermediate to advanced riders and the carpark is located conveniently beside the trail entrance.

Difficulty level: bikebike

Newly opened in April 2016, Chestnut Nature Park (South) has a smooth, ‘flowy’ and versatile track which allows beginners to ride at a leisurely and enjoyable pace. More experienced riders can opt for a more aggressive line by going faster and harder through the berms.

Advanced riders can make use of the many up-and-over features to get ‘air time’. Parking lots can be found near the eastern end of Chestnut Avenue.
