Being involved in a car accident is stressful. The aftermath needn’t be, as one man found out
AN ACCIDENT CAN happen to anyone (that’s what makes them accidents), and while incidents on the road are often a matter of chance, what happens after an accident can be much more within your control.
That’s when the support of a caring insurance company can make all the difference.
That was the experience of N. Rajarethinam. He was involved in an accident on West Coast Road when the car in front of him braked too suddenly for him to stop in time. The resulting damage to his car required repairs amounting to approximately $3,300.
“Since I had insurance, I only paid excess of around $600,” said Mr Rajarethinam.
But it wasn’t the fact that his insurance policy saved him money that pleased Mr Rajarethinam most. It was the service delivered by his insurance provider, AIG, and its authorised workshop – Cycle & Carriage Body & Paint Centre (C&C).
“It was very easy,” he said of the claims procedure. He filled out an accident report immediately and took the car to C&C at Pandan Gardens, and left it there.
Two weeks later, the car was ready for collection.
But while it was being repaired, he wasn’t left to sit, wait and stew. C&C offered to provide him with a replacement car, which he declined because of season parking issues at home and at work. The gesture was appreciated nevertheless.
What really impressed him was how C&C kept him updated throughout the process. “They frequently contacted me and updated me on the progress,” he said. They also updated him via email regularly.
The main takeaway for Mr Rajarethinam is that the right insurer and right repair workshop can really ease the headache of something as stressful as a car accident. And because he was provided with clear and straightforward steps to take after a crash, things went smoothly.
“Overall, it was a good experience and it taught me a lesson on how to tackle an emergency like this,” he said.
