Stay Home Car Protection Tips

7 May 2020

Stay home. Stay safe. Head out only for essentials. But this means that our cars will be used far less than usual. The extended and enhanced circuit breaker means we’re going to use our vehicles even lesser. Here are some tips to ensure your vehicle stays in as good a condition as you do.

Tip 1

CLEAN THE INTERIOR

The last thing you want is for some food you forgot about to rot or attract pests. Comb through your vehicle to remove any trash. Spray some air freshener or disinfectant to remove unpleasant smell and eradicate bacteria.

Tip 2_

WARM UP THE ENGINE

Engine oil will settle down in the oil sump if your car is not driven for a prolong period. Also, your battery may not have enough energy stored to start the engine. If you are heading out, start the engine and let it idle for a while. Allow the engine oil to circulate and reach the optimum temperature as well as the battery to charge before driving off.

Tip 3

REMOVE FIRE HAZARDS

This includes the aerosol can, matches and cigarette lighters. Even plastic bottles filled with water left under direct sunlight can pose a fire hazard. – you never know what could happen, so why risk it?

Tip 4

CLEAN THE EXTERIOR

Check all the panels on your car, especially the bonnet, roof, and boot lid for bird poo, pollen, dust and twigs. Clean them off with soapy water to prevent corrosion on your paintwork. If you want to go the extra mile in protecting your paint, wax and seal your car before putting it away. This will prolong the longevity of the paint.

Tip 5

CHECK YOUR TYRE PRESSURE

Do check your tyre pressure if you are heading out and avoid parking your vehicle in one spot for too long to prevent flat spot on tyres.
